This spring Penn State expects to award 13,894 diplomas to students University-wide who are completing 226 associate, 11,435 baccalaureate, 1,590 master’s, 262 law, 244 doctoral and 137 medical degrees. Most Penn Staters are familiar with THON, a completely student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The organization’s efforts culminate each year with a 46-hour dance marathon in the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park, to which each participating Penn State campus sends dancers as representatives.

Before the football game on Nov. 5, Penn State Great Valley students Carolina Aceto and Tahseen Firoz walked onto the field at Beaver Stadium to be recognized for their service in the Marine Corps. Donning Military Appreciation Day T-shirts, they joined Penn State veterans from all branches of the United States military in holding a giant American flag across the end zone as the opening bars of the national anthem rang out.
Rebecca Strzelec, professor of visual arts at Penn State Altoona and the 2016-17 Penn State laureate, will visit Penn State Brandywine at noon on Oct. 18 to present “Art + Engineering = Creative Problem Solving.” Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to join Strzelec in Room 113 of the Main Building for her presentation.
On Oct. 6 the Penn State community will come together to kick off an ongoing University-wide initiative that brings students, faculty and staff together to show their commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment. “All In at Penn State: A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion” will begin with a public event at 7:15 p.m. in front of Old Main on the University Park campus that will be livestreamed to the campuses.
Penn State’s annual celebration of Constitution Day will take place on Friday, Sept. 16 at University Park, with events happening throughout the month of September across Penn State campuses.
Penn State Lehigh Valley held its annual commencement ceremony on May 7 at ArtsQuest Center at Steelstacks in Bethlehem. The campus awarded associate and bachelor's degrees to over 100 students. Bill Phillips, Men's Health editor-in-chief and 1991 alumnus, was the featured speaker at the new venue.
Jennifer Morgan, president of SAP North America, will be the speaker at Penn State Brandywine’s spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. May 7 in the Commons Building Gymnasium on campus.
